Faculty of Engineering Launches Second “Water for All” Initiative to Safeguard Shelters Water Quality

Building on its strong commitment to community support, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) at the University of Balamand has launched the second edition of its impactful “Water for All” initiative. This renewed effort aims to strengthen the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector in response to the ongoing challenges affecting communities across Lebanon.

Conducted in collaboration with national WASH partners, the initiative is led by Dr. Yasmine Jabali, Associate Professor at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. It is actively supported by laboratory assistants Mrs. Sherine Saliba, Mrs. Lena Inati, and Mr. Yorgo Farah, whose dedication ensures the effective implementation of all activities through the Environmental Engineering Laboratory at FOE.

This initiative reflects the faculty’s continued dedication to public health and community service, especially during times of crisis and heightened need. It focuses on safeguarding access to clean and safe water while providing essential technical expertise to organizations operating on the front lines.

The “Water for All” initiative is built around two main components:

Free Water Quality Testing
FOE is offering water quality testing services free of charge for shelters welcoming displaced people who are affected by the recent developments, which started early in March 2026. This effort is designed to help ensure that the displaced populations have reliable access to safe water, thereby minimizing the risk of waterborne diseases.

Technical Support Hotline
A dedicated hotline has been established to address inquiries related to water quality, testing procedures, and water disinfection methods. Available to all WASH sector partners, this service provides timely, expert guidance to support and enhance response efforts.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagemeent and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud believes that through this second “Water for All” initiative, the University of Balamand, through its Faculty of Engineering, reaffirms its role as a proactive academic institution committed to addressing national challenges in line with our President, Dr Elias Warrak, directive. By merging technical excellence with community engagement, the initiative continues to play a vital role in promoting public health and advancing sustainable water management during this critical time.
