Dr. Chawki Lahoud Appointed as a Member of the Board of Directors of the South Lebanon Water Establishment

In a notable recognition of the vital role that academic expertise plays in shaping national institutions, Dr. Chawki Lahoud, Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering at UOB, has been appointed as a Member of the Board of Directors of the South Lebanon Water Establishment.

Approved by the Lebanese Council of Ministers during its session on May 22, 2026, this appointment formed part of a series of high-level administrative, political, and diplomatic decisions, including key leadership appointments across Lebanon’s regional water establishments. Dr. Lahoud’s nomination reflects growing national confidence in the contribution of academic and technical expertise to the governance of strategic public institutions and critical infrastructure sectors.

In his capacity as a member of the Board of Directors, Dr. Lahoud will participate in shaping the institution’s policies and strategic decisions, overseeing financial and administrative governance, approving budgets and investment plans, reviewing procurement and service agreements, and supporting initiatives that enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and quality of water services provided to communities across South Lebanon.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud extended his sincere congratulations to Dr. Lahoud on this major appointment stating: “Dr. Lahoud’s appointment is a well-deserved recognition of his expertise, dedication, and commitment to serving both academia and society. We are proud to see one of our faculty members entrusted with such an important national responsibility. His appointment reflects the quality of talent within our Faculty and the valuable role that engineering academics can play in not only shaping the future engineers but equally addressing national challenges and contributing to sustainable development”.
