The University of Balamand Organizes a Screening of “Cave of Forgotten Dreams”

The University of Balamand organized a screening of “Cave of Forgotten Dreams”, a documentary by renowned German filmmaker Werner Herzog, on November 3, 2026, at its Koura Campus. The event was organized jointly by the Department of Archaeology and Museology, the Department of Agriculture, and the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA).

The film explores the Chauvet Cave in southern France, home to some of the oldest known prehistoric paintings, dating back approximately 32,000 years. Through its remarkable images, the documentary offers a glimpse into prehistoric life and the artistic and symbolic expressions of early humans.

Participants discussed different aspects of the film, including its archaeological and historical significance, the artistic techniques used in the cave paintings, and their possible spiritual and symbolic meanings. The discussion also explored how these ancient works reflect the creativity, imagination, and cultural life of early humans.
