UOB Organizes Teachers’ Professional Learning Conference on AI in Education

The Department of Education, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Balamand organized a Teachers’ Professional Learning Conference titled “Rethinking Pedagogy in the Era of Artificial Intelligence” on October 31, 2026, at the University’s Koura campus. The event brought together educators to explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on teaching and learning and to discuss ways of integrating it meaningfully into the classroom.

The conference opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Ghania Zgheib, Head of the Department of Education, followed by an address by Prof. Hanna EL-Nakat, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Nada Dabbagh, Professor Emerita of Education at George Mason University USA, delivered the keynote session, highlighting the changing role of educators in an increasingly AI-driven educational environment.

The program continued with ten parallel workshops, delivered in English and French by educators and specialists from various schools and institutions. The workshops addressed practical applications of AI in lesson planning, assessment, language teaching, creative writing, student engagement, and critical thinking, while emphasizing responsible and ethical use of technology in education.

Through this initiative, the Department of Education reaffirms its commitment to supporting teachers’ professional development and encouraging collaboration, innovation, and the exchange of classroom experiences.
