At the Department of Chemistry, students have the prospect to learn about the traditional four main fields of chemistry and the corresponding emerging fields. Our undergraduate curriculum delivers to students the basic concepts of chemistry, communication skills, as well as critical and analytical thinking skills, through classroom courses, laboratory courses and research. Our graduate program advances their knowledge regarding the traditional four main fields of chemistry, as well as specialized expertise in their specific areas of interest . The graduate program prepares students for opportunities in areas of education, industry, research (science, environment, health) and presents them as scientifically literate citizens.

Program Learning Objectives

The BS program in Chemistry aims at providing students with the following knowledge and skills:

  1. Understand the fundamentals in the various fields in chemistry.

  2. Acquire skills in problem-solving and critical thinking.

  3. Acquire safety, operational and analytical skills required in chemistry laboratories.

  4. Communicate effectively in the chemistry field and develop interpersonal skills.

  5. Be able to join a graduate program in a field of study related to chemistry.

  6. Be able to fit in any related employment opportunity, such as research, industry, teaching and even administration.

Upon the successful completion of the BS curriculum in Chemistry, graduates must be able to demonstrate:

Master of Science in Chemistry

The MS program in Chemistry aims at furnishing students with the following knowledge and skills:

  2. Acquire specialized knowledge in focused areas related to the thesis project.

  3. Apply fundamentals of research methodologies to interpret scientific data.

  4. Be able to explore new areas of research based on expert literature review.

  5. Be able to communicate knowledge, write a scientific manuscript and defend a thesis.

  6. Be able to join Ph.D. programs or research projects in related fields.

Upon the successful completion of the MS curriculum in Chemistry, graduates are anticipated to:
