Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology prepares students to make their choices about their future practice in psychology. It adopts a multidisciplinary approach and brings into play theories from biology, developmental and social psychology, psychoanalysis and positive psychology to explore the dynamics of development, adaptation, well-being and mental health.

Theories are examined within a comparative framework that elucidates their basic concepts, history, variants and applications. Courses offered by the department incorporate a significant practical element allowing students to build a deeper understanding of the reality of the studied phenomena.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

Program Objectives

  1. Provide a scholarly and illustrated overview of current theories of personality, learning, behavior, counseling and psychotherapies, within a comparative framework that elucidates their basic concepts, history, variants and applications.

  2. Develop a multidisciplinary approach to psychological knowledge by bringing into play theories from biology, developmental and social psychology, psychoanalysis and positive psychology allowing to explore the dynamics of development, adaptation, well-being and mental health.

  3. Introduce students to diverse career opportunities in psychology.


Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the theories of development across life span; the biological basis of human adaptive and non-adaptive functioning and the learning and personality mechanisms standing behind well-being, mental health and/or psychopathology.

  • Demonstrate skills in interpreting professional reports that assess psychological functioning.

  • Demonstrate critical abilities in reading academic references and research in different fields of psychology.

  • Identify and generate research designs to various questions within the field of psychology.

  • Demonstrate abilities to communicate, orally and in writing, understanding of a wide array of psychological phenomena.



Master of Arts in Psychology

Program Objectives

The MA program aims at
  1. Preparing highly qualified professionals equipped with scientific knowledge anchored in evidenced based theories and practices

  2. Training highly critical, skillful and ethical practitioner in the fields of clinical and educational practice of psychology.

  3. Graduating psychologists eligible for certification by the Lebanese laws and that contribute effectively to science and to the welfare of their communities.


Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate abilities in conceptualizing psychological functioning and psychological disorders from within a multiplicity of theoretical framework.

  • Demonstrate knowledge in the manifestations of psychological disorders and their etiology.

  • Choose and apply scientifically based assessment strategies allowing a clinical evaluation of the functioning of a subject.

  • Adapt evidenced based intervention designs in a way to respond to the needs of the subjects in a culturally sensitive manner.

  • Demonstrate motivation, engagement, good interpersonal skills and ethical conduct in the field of practice.

  • Demonstrate a state-of-the-art knowledge and a scholarly overview of research designs and methods as they pertain to the exploration of psychological phenomena.

  • Communicate, orally and in writing, information that is relevant to the understanding of the psychological state of the subject and/or of any psychological phenomena.

  • Design and conduct scientific research studies in psychology.



After Graduation
Students with a BA degree in Psychology can work in healthcare and psycho-social settings like hospitals, NGOs, or educational institutions. MA graduates are eligible, according to the Lebanese law, to open their own clinics.
