Programs

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a variety of academic programs in the Health Sciences. Curricula are community-oriented and multidisciplinary, to equip graduates with the professional literacy, competencies, teamwork, and skills needed to meet challenges in the dynamic work environment of today's health sector.

Undergraduate degree programs lead to a Bachelor of Science degree within a minimum of a three-year framework. Graduate degree programs lead to a Master of Science degree or a Master of Public Health degree.

Professional Master Degree in Laboratory Management

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a two-year graduate program leading to a Professional Master degree in Laboratory Sciences with a Laboratory Management focus.

Students develop enhanced problem-solving abilities and capacities to function more actively in Laboratory Management through supervised professional training in an actual laboratory setting. The internship provides the students with hands-on training in lab finance and budgeting, implementation of quality management, database and information systems, and management skills; as well as developing personal managerial and leadership skills.

To be eligible for admission to the program, candidates should have completed a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Biology, or a related discipline.

GRADUATE PROGRAM MISSION
The mission of the program is to prepare students for leadership positions in laboratory management. By engaging graduates in multidisciplinary internships, students are positioned to become effective managers in health and industrial organizations.

GRADUATE PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The Professional Master degree in Laboratory Management will meet the following objectives to accomplish its mission:
  1. Strengthen students’ understanding and administrative skills in quality assurance, quality improvement and laboratory management.
  2. Provide students with in-depth knowledge in human resources, marketing, budgeting and healthcare management.
  3. Familiarize students with various information and database management systems.
  4. Provide students with opportunities to conduct training in various healthcare and industrial settings with high standards of professionalism.

GRADUATE PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon graduation, graduates will be able to:
  1. Develop laboratory policies, rules, and regulations.
  2. Develop managerial skills to effectively supervise and evaluate laboratory personnel.
  3. Manage and sustain a profitable laboratory of high standards.
  4. Apply national and international guidelines in different laboratory settings to achieve accreditation
  5. Demonstrate leadership abilities and professional conduct in laboratory settings.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the functions, current issues and trends involved in the management of human resources in a laboratory setting.
  7. Display competence and confidence in working with various clinical and industrial laboratories as a quality officer.
